a Wizard's potion making table...

As Summer nears I always start thinking about Halloween because I love making creepy, spooky, magical and/or fantastical art. So, a couple of months ago, I started designing a Dragon Table that sort of morphed into the Gryphon Table you see here. The table is really easy to glue together and would be fabulous in a Medieval dungeon as well as in a modern library.
I painted my table black and dry brushed white over the top to add a bit of depth and interest. I also used four mushroom plugs as feet to give the table more height. The table comes with a thin chipboard "veneer" that glues onto the top that I chose to cover with a great distressed paper from the Tim Holtz Materialize 8x8 Paper Stash pad.
I made up a bunch of potion bottles using a couple of collage sheets and lots of bottles from the many choices available at Alpha Stamps. Some of the bottles are just beads with bead stoppers, but they do look like real bottles :) The boxes and books were made using collage sheets as well. It always amazes me that so many things can be created with just paper and glue and a little imagination.
My fancy wizard's wand is made out of a painted toothpick with a bit of washi tape on the end. I used Finnabair Art Extravagance Patina Effect Paste Set to color the Mini Scale with Weights so it wasn't so brightly gold. The candles were sculpted out of polymer clay. And, the skull is the Cast Metal Skull - White that is available at Alpha Stamps. I just painted it with dark brown acrylic paint and dry brushed white acrylic paint over it when it was dry.
I really like the way my wizard potion making table turned out. It looks like it was complicated and time consuming to make but it really wasn't. The labels are easily glued onto the bottles with white glue. There's a tutorial for making the books and anyone can paint a miniature table :) I hope you will make one of your own, come on you know you want to!

Rose Ella's reading room or a Witch's Grimoire...

Rose Ella is a witch with an addiction to reading. She likes nothing better than to curl up in her favorite chair with a good book and a cup of pumpkin spice latte (a girl after my own heart)...
I created Rose Ella's reading room inside a new Large Faux Book Box. The cover is meant to look like a grimoire (witch's spell book)...
Then you open it up and the fun begins!
I used a miniature book I made (using the Spell Book Box Covers Collage Sheet) to prop up the front right corner of the book box because the chair I used is resin (and kinda heavy). This way it can be displayed open on a shelf without tipping forward.

My favorite part of this whole scene is the book case. I love how it looks...
It started out as an unfinished Corner Bookcase with 3 Shelves. I added Dresden trim to the book case like this...
It doesn't matter what color of Dresden you use as you are going to paint over it with Gesso once it dries. Then I attached some Tiny Resin Skulls like so...
You can see the frame I used (and a shelf for an up coming project in the pic too). Once the skulls dried I added a second coat of Gesso to everything then painted it all with black acrylic paint. A dry brushing with transparent white acrylic paint gave it an aged appearance.
Speaking of aged... isn't that little stone gargoyle adorable!? I loved him so much I bought extra to share with you, now available in my etsy shop.
I hope you have enjoyed this look inside Rose Ella's reading room... If you'd like to make your own witchy reading room, or other fun miniature scene, you can find my supply list here.

Stay tuned for more spooky and witchy projects as I gear up for Halloween :D

A Witch's Book of Spells with a Secret...

Just an unassuming little spell book sitting on  a shelf.

It's a bit worn and looks well loved...

Hey! The spine is loose! Oh! There's something inside...

This is my latest creation and it was made using a new kit I designed for Alpha Stamps. The kit comes with die-cut chipboard parts and collage sheets to assemble the book box, plus potion labels, ephemera, miniature book covers and boxes, a wooden look drawer... you really need to go take a look. But, come right back as I've created a snapguide with all the instructions and tips you need to get the kit assembled, too.

If you're curious about the bottles or paper or embellishment I've used to decorate my book box, here's the supply list. Not sure how to assemble miniature books? Here's my tutorial.

Thanks for stopping by... I hope you enjoyed this post and it inspired you to create something.
