Alice in the library... and outside

 Alpha Stamps has a new monthly kit for May and it includes this awesome Gatefold Window Card.

 I used two of the gatefold window cards to make a sweet little double sided Alice in Wonderland shrine. On one side there is an outside scene with fake grass and a window box and lovely pink roses. You can view the library through the window...

 if you look closely you can see the Cheshire cat sitting on a shelf in the bookcase.
Btw, I used the Finnabair Art Extravagence Rust Paste Set to paint the window frames and the flower box because I swear I'm in love with this stuff!

From the side you can kinda see both little scenes...

 The flip side of my shrine has a library scene and you can look outside. I used the Alice Plays Croquet Collage Sheet for my outside view. 

 You can tell you're in the library because there are stacks of books everywhere.

The White Rabbit is looking a bit puzzled by the butterfly sitting on a stack of books and perhaps by the mushrooms sprouting out of the floor.

Those wonderful framed paintings are cut out of one of the papers included in the May kit :)

caged Alice...

Today, May 4th, is Alice Liddell's birthday. If you are an Alice in Wonderland fan, then you know who Alice L is... for those of you who don't know, she is the little girl who inspired Lewis Carroll to write Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Alice L would have been 164 today if she had not died in 1934 at the ripe old age of 82. Anyway... in honor of Alice L's birthday I have created a silly version of the Queen's croquet ground... complete with hedgehog balls and flamingo mallets.

I used a wonderful shabby chic birdcage as the base of my croquet ground...

 then added a bit of moss...

some fussy cut collage images...

 some paper flowers and a wonderful resin-faced flower I painted with artist pastels...

then I topped it all off with a cute little hedgehog that's trying to escape the game ;)

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland...

is one of my all time favorite books! Along with the sequel Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There, you have only to pick up either book, flip to any chapter and be instantly amused by the crazy antics of Alice and friends. That is why I couldn't resist doing a couple of collage sheets for both books sized to use with the Hidden Drawer Book Box.

Of course I also had to jump right in and play with the collage sheets and Book Box too! Here's what I came up with...

 I added the White Rabbit to the cover standing on a stack of books and holding a pocket watch.

 The White Rabbit is also standing on a pile of books on the back cover...

 he is joined by a framed photograph of Lewis Carroll himself.

 Inside you find Alice contemplating a bottle labeled "drink me" as the Mad Hatter peers at her from behind the curtain.

 There's a photograph hanging on the wall behind Alice taken by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll) of his maybe inspiration for Alice, Alice Pleasance Liddell.

My favorite feature is the tiny key with a tassel made out of thread. I almost went blind making that tassel :) but it matches the tassel on the book mark I attached to the top of the book so it was well worth the effort!

the White Rabbit's hutch...

My favorite Wonderland denizen has always been the White Rabbit. Being perpetually late myself, I truly understand his frustrated cries of "Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it's getting!". I have always assumed he is a bit tardy because he is an avid reader and has a terrible time tearing himself away from a good book. I imagine his little home filled with books. Books in every room because you never know when you might have a few minutes to lose yourself in an interesting story...

I recently had the opportunity to birth my vision of the White Rabbit's home inside a sweet little Miniature China Cabinet from Alpha Stamps. The china cabinet or hutch, as I like to call it, looks quite shabby chic on the outside.

 There are images and pages from an old copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as well as images from Go Ask Alice Collage Sheet and We Are All Mad Here Collage Sheet all over the outside.

 A bit of texture was added with a Tim Holtz Stencil - Dot Fade and some Golden Molding Paste.

 And, of course, I used lots of Wonderland themed charms and doodads! Like the adorable Tiny Cup of Tea with Lemon and the "drink me" bottle.

But... my favorite part is inside...

where I created the White Rabbits home in 1:48 scale!

If you look closely at the desk in his den, you will see a tiny cup of tea and lots of books. The books were made using a collage sheet I created with all kinds of things to use in a 1:48 scale house. The lamp on the corner is a Gold Chess Queen Charm with a lamp shade from the collage sheet added to it :)

There are more books in his bedroom and a Tiny Bronze Cauldron Charm with a plant growing from it. And just look at that bathroom! Did you notice the books on the floor next to the toilet?

In the tiny kitchen there are books on the table and a Tiny Bronze Teapot Charm on the stove.

Now I know not everyone is gonna want to make their own White Rabbit's Hutch but why not make a tiny little house in a hutch devoted to one of your own favorite literary characters? The scale is small but it makes everything so much faster to complete! And the furniture is so very tiny and cute!
