As you know I not only work for Alpha Stamps but I am also a lucky member of the Design Team. A couple of months ago we received our bimonthly kit and it was my very favorite theme, Halloween! Of course I couldn't wait to get started and spent many hours gesso-ing, collage-ing, painting and more collage-ing until I came up with this whimsical Haunted House Book.

My Mother died of lung cancer about a year and a half ago. She had smoked cigarettes for over forty years and they finally got her. Needles to say, I don't smoke and it kills me that my DH does smoke. I can't seem to get it through his head that smoking may kill him too.

So, being the artist I am, I decided to create a little shrine about the dangers of smoking.

I made the barbed wire by hand out of jewelry wire and many of the parts came from a pack of cigarettes. Click on the pictures to see it larger.

i first became aware of this wonderful blogging event last year but since it was the day before the event was scheduled to end i didn't get to participate. so i am really excited to participate this year! One World One Heart is the brainchild of blogger Lisa Swifka. Lisa wanted a way to bring bloggers from all over the world together and she certainly has succeeded!

I recently had the pleasure of taking a class with the wonderful Gina Gabriell at her beautiful store Tangerine.

We sculpted sweet little dolls (mine turned out to be a kitty, hehe) out of paper clay and attached them to musical turntables. You can't see the musical turntable because it is cleverly hidden inside the decorated perch my kitty is standing on. My music box plays "Over the Rainbow" and the kitty slowly rotates when the music is playing. It was really a fun and easy class and Gina is the perfect hostess!

these fun ACEOs are for a swap hosted by Kristin Marz from the artisttradingcards Yahoo group. this swap required the swappers to alter the Venus de Milo in some way. a fabulous idea for a swap and super fun to do. i like how these turned out kinda monochromatic with a little color. and I'm kinda in love with my Dymo label maker right now, don't know if you can tell but I used it for "venus" and the leftover (from punching out the letters) I used as trim.

this is an altered bingo card. the card is one of the sturdy chipboard kind. i painted lola using golden fluid acrylics and used black glitter for her hair. her chin is a little crooked, but i don't think she minds!

just finished this little beauty. i'm quite pleased with how it came out. it is made of acrylic paint over various found objects (you my recognize the body as belonging to the head i used for my birdman). the wing feathers were dyed with ranger alcohol inks. it stands about 8.5 " tall.

Update: This piece won the Artchix Studio Buttons Contest! Yiippee!

twisted paper doll swap . . .

i had the pleasure of hosting a swap for a yahoo group i'm in called paper traders. the theme was "twisted paper dolls" & we were to create two paper dolls sized between 3" to 8" tall using any medium. the twist was to use an animal head instead of the traditional human head. the results were wonderful! they are all so different and adorable. i really had a hard time choosing just two to keep!

i took group photos to share so all of you could see the sweet dolls. first up are my three meow antoinettes. i used a photo of my kitty Moe & some photos of cakes & cookies, manipulated in Photoshop, to create these little Maries. of course i made an extra so i could keep one for myself!

in the second group are Beckie Holso's giraffe & panda (i did keep the panda, lol), next are Lynne Fitzgerald's brown bear & grey cat, and Connie Holso's brown tabby cat & bunny.

the third group features Susan DuCharme's bear & owl and Letha Richardson's two monkeys.

last, but certainly not least, are Joanie Hoffman's graffiti cat & mouse (i had to keep the mouse!) and Laura Haviland's kitty cats.

wonderful creations ladies, take a bow! you can bet i'll be hosting more swaps, it was super fun to do!

swaps two and three are sponsored by collage stuff, one of my very most favorite online stores. first we have "things with wings" hosted by lisa busch of collage stuff. i used lots of golden's interference blue paint so they look iridescent. i've also recently fallen i love with prima flowers, they are so sweet! next up is "two of a kind" swap hosted by gloria who is a member of the collage stuff yahoo group. for this swap we had to use images from the "atc set d" rubber stamp set. love this set! i used watercolor pencils to color my stamped images and collaged them over some wonderful door images. i just had to add the great hat images form art chix studio cuz i've been dying to use them. in the end i really like the way they turned out.

i just finished up three swaps that are due soon. i always wait till the last minute cuz my muse seems to be more inspired under pressure. swap number one is "angels, fairies & divas" sponsored by altered by design and hosted by lenna andrews. i used golden crackle paste and acrylic paint for the base of these cards and i think it adds a nice dimension to them. i also used some of the "fragments" tiles by tim holtz, love these! they are little clear acrylic tiles that kinda magnify any image placed under them. the collage sheets i used for these cards are "when angels cry" and "digital divas" both by altered by design and available at joggles.

mom's garden

i spent the past weekend at my parents house. they live about an hour away from me so i don't get to see them as much as i'd like. so sometimes i just have to take a weekend to enjoy their company.

my mom has a wonderful garden that is in full bloom. i took loads of photos while there and just had to share a couple. the top photo is a view of the small hill in my parents back yard. right now it is just covered in these beautiful little yellow flowers. the other photo is a close-up of a wonderful rusty colored stone angel who watches over a little pond.

i live in an apartment myself so i'm always happy to spend time in a garden. the colors and textures are so inspiring. i feel as if i've had a shot of creativity!

these darling artist trading cards are for the alpha stamps yahoo group. as you can see the theme for this swap is circus. we are supposed to use images from any of the alpha stamps circus collage sheets. i added animal heads to my little clowns, cuz i think it makes them cuter. i'm all about the cute, lol.

i made this little bird man out of an altoid tin, a tin ceiling tile, rusty wire mesh, and an old doll head. i used paper clay to sculpt the beak on the doll head. the doll was one of those old sleep dolls that close their eyes when they lay down, so the eyes still open & close in the head. it's a little spooky . . . i like that.

These are the beautiful ATCs I received in the Alpha Stamps Yahoo group swap. Upper left was created by the talented Sarah Whitmire and features a real dried flower. Upper right was created by the wonderful Cat Riley and features a pretty butterfly sticker & yellow bingo marker. The bottom card was created by the creative Caroline Ouzts Hay and features real thread sewn through the card. All will make lovely additions to my collection of cards!

yes, halloween art in march! this is a 4x4" collage on canvas. i created it for the vintage halloween contest on the art chix yahoo group. the contest encourages submission of the same piece to the somerset studio magazine vintage halloween call for art. so now i have to decide if the piece is good enough to be submitted. the deadline is april 15th, so i would have to mail it off soon . . . i guess i'm a little scared to be judged by a magazine i truly love. what do you think? is it vintage enough? should i submit it?

these baby humming birds,there were two, flew away a few days ago. mommy hummingbird built her nest right outside the studio where i work so i got to see daily progress. i really enjoyed watching the little guys grow up, they grew so fast it was truly amazing. hope you have a wonderful easter sunday & the bunny brings you your hearts desire!

just finished up these little kitty dolls for an alpha stamps yahoo group swap. the swap was 6 felt dolls for 5 in return. the requirements were to make a doll no bigger than 6". the dolls had to have at least one side made of felt. and the doll had to be created from something carried by Alpha Stamps. well these meet the requirements and i really love the way they came out. i haven't done any sewing in years but it was easy to get right back to it. i found sewing by hand to be very relaxing, gives you time to meditate, lol. for anyone wanting to know, the wool felt is from Alpha Stamps, they also carry the Art Girlz arm charms & felt hearts. the eyes are just vintage shell buttons from my stash.

i made these shiny egg shaped atcs for an alpha stamps yahoo group swap. i used the pretty new gold dresden scrap from alpha stamps, as we were required to use something from AS. the wonderful collage sheet images and diecut eggs came from the girls at red lead. i love red lead paper works, they have the best customer service! hop on over and check they're webstore you won't be disappointed!

speaking of shopping i've got a whole bunch of new stuff in my etsy shop, aceos, supplies, note cards and this fun little faerie shadowbox. i made the shadowbox out of a great greeting card box i got at . . . red lead, of corse. okay, so i really didn't mean for this post to turn into a commercial. but i do like to share a great find. hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

empty mailbox contest

ginny of ginny's small studio has been having an "empty mailbox" contest during the month of february. i entered the contest with some of my cat dolls. you can see my entry in the first pic. the contest came to a close today, being judged by an employee at the avon lake ohio post office. although i didn't win (the prize was a $35 gift certificate to small studio productions) i am happy to say i got an honorable mention. the second pic shows the four entries that received honorable mention they were sent in by jeanette hinchey of san jose CA, rachel greig of chittaway bay Australia, and dot of frohna MO. you can see all the beautiful entries here.

last night i decided to finally try selling on ebay. i have been buying on ebay for years & years but i've always been a little shy about selling. i listed a couple of aceos (pictured here). it was easy enough to do, you just have to fill in the boxes with your information. i started them at $5.00 each on three day auctions. now the hard part is waiting to see if anyone will buy them!

i was feeling extra creative over the weekend and ended up making 10 artist trading cards. i then started a collage (featuring my version of marie antoinette) on an 8" x 8" canvas. i won't post the collage till it is finished, but for your viewing pleasure . . . just a few of the atcs. i will be posting most of these in my shop for a mere $7.50 each.

i finished these little cards last night. i think i will put them in my shop.

valentine hearts

i made these valentine heart ornaments to give to friends and family for valentine's day. they were made by collageing some chipboard hearts with black & cream toile print tissue paper and german scrap pieces. i then painted on some copper colored acrylic paint to age it a bit. when it was dry i painted the whole thing with ranger crackle accents. when dry & crackled, i embossed with stamper's anonymous xo stamp and copper colored embossing powder. vintage dictionary pages cover the flip side & ribbon is threaded through holes i punched around the edge. i finished with a wire for hanging.

this postcard art is featured on the front page of the alpha stamps yahoo group, it makes me proud to be chosen. i created this one for the lenna andrews swap for alpha stamps (see previous post). I used an image from tallulah's paris showgirls #1 collage sheet for his head.

i've been wanting to create a blog for awhile now, but (there's always a but . . .), i thought it would be really hard or a lot of work. who knew it was soooo easy!

so here i am. for my first post i thought i would show off a couple of post cards i have created for a swap in my favorite yahoo group. the swap it is being hosted by lenna andrews for the alpha stamps group. we are to create 5 cards or post cards of any size using images from the tallulah's collage sheets from alpha stamps. the two cards shown use images from the 20 beauties collage sheet.
